I have been back in school now for six weeks and have revised my plan.  I realized at the start of the year that my plan would not work as originally indicated. The district office was unwilling to work with me on this plan and would not allow me to access student data for students that I am not currently teaching.  I could have fought them on this and probably convinced them that they were being illogical given that I am a district employee and am working on an administrative degree, but then realized my study would be more valid if I reconfigured it. It occurred to me that the way that I had originally designed my study I would be comparing apples to oranges.  I need to only work with students that I teach.  This will result in a smaller study but will be more accurate and increase the validity of the study.  To date, I have surveyed my students to see who has computer online access at home and have measured the number of times students have accessed Power Schools.  With the first nine weeks closing fast, I will now stat to push the use of Power Schools and see if that has an increased use of Power Schools and an accompanying increase in student achievement. I have already included a note on their paper interim about the use of Power Schools and have verified that all of my student's parents saw the note by having students return the signed copies of the reports.  Only five students filed to return those reports and contact with two of those has been completed--the other three continue to be a challenge as their phone contacts have all been disconnected and they are bus riders.  So far I have estimated to have spent about 12 hours on this part of the project.
